Is Canelo Alvarez Afraid To Go Head-To-Head With UFC?

When it comes to competing both inside and outside the boxing ring, Canelo Alvarez shows no signs of weakness.

Alvarez will put his WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles on the line this September opposite Edgar Berlanga. The bout headlines a card to go down from Las Vegas and the T-Mobile Arena.

What makes the September 16 date so interesting is that the UFC will also be in town. The MMA promotion will hold UFC 306 from the Sphere that very same night.

During a recent interview on Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Alvarez pointed out that Mexican Independence Day weekend will remain his.

“It’s just different,” he said (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “Maybe other boxing matches, maybe, but Canelo is different. There are other kind of fights, but Canelo is just different.

“I don’t care if the UFC is there, when Canelo fights, it’s different.”

While Berlanga might not be the draw of a David Benavidez or Terence Crawford, Alvarez does not believe it has any concern to the buy rate for the night.

The UFC’s night of fights will feature two titles on the line. In the main event, Sean O’Malley puts his bantamweight belt up for grabs vs. Merab Dvalishvili. The other sees Alexa Grasso defend in a rematch with Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight belt.

Other fighters scheduled include Brian Ortega, Irene Aldana and Raul Rosas Jr.

If you had to decide on either Alvarez or UFC 306, which would you pick? Or will you find ways to see both?
