It seems that a rumored boxing bout between Conor McGregor and Logan Paul was the plan B for a different boxing matchup.
It has been a very long time since we have seen Conor McGregor in action. Over the last decade, the former two-division UFC champion has developed a reputation for long gaps between fights. However, his current hiatus is his longest yet.

The Irish sports superstar has not fought in three and a half years. And after a planned bout with Michael Chandler this summer fell through, there has been a lot of speculation that McGregor may never return to the fight game. But in a new random rant on X, the 36-year-old claimed he is closing in on a new fight booking. But it isn’t in the UFC.
“The rumors of a bout with [Ilia] Topuria are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India,” McGregor wrote in a post on X. “I’ve agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”
But it seems facing the current WWE star was not the original plan.

Jake Paul claims Conor McGregor has been pushing hard for a boxing bout recently
“Now it all makes sense why Conor Mcgregor & his management team have been desperately trying to get MVP to negotiate for a fight between us,” Paul said in an X post following the McGregor versus his brother reveal. “As we told them privately & I’m now saying it publicly.
“The only way we’re willing to explore me vs Conor in a pro boxing/MMA fight is if Dana White/UFC is at the table directly or make it clear they are ok with discussions. Conor is washed. Needs the Paul’s. Logan by however he wants.”
- Jake Paul record: 11-1 (7 knockouts)
For years, McGregor scoffed at the idea of a fight with Jake Paul. However, after Logan’s younger brother had a highly successful fight against Mike Tyson last month, it seems there are many stars from the fight game now open to the idea of a big payday against “El Gallo.”
