
A new boxing rumor claims the Canelo Alvarez super fight that fans have been clamoring for over the last couple of years is getting closer to being finalized for later this year.
If you asked a casual boxing fan to name one star of today, chances are they would say Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Over the last decade-plus, he has become one of the most famous fighters on the planet. Dazzling fight fans with his pound-for-pound talent in some of the biggest clashes of the era.

However, over the last few years, many fans have been disappointed by the level of competition the Mexican icon has faced. Victories over the likes of Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia have diminished his legacy in the view of some. With little time left at an elite level, fans want to see Alvarez face the best of the best.
Men such as light heavyweight superstar David Benavidez. Boxing fans have been pushing hard for a clash between the two over the last year. Yet despite Benavidez being up for the bout, Alvarez continues to pass on the opportunity. However, a new report claims that after years of speculation, a different super-fight that has long been rumored may go down in September.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight rumored for September 2025

Over the weekend, The Ring reported that Canelo Alvarez and none other than fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford met with Saudi boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh. And that “extraordinary efforts are being made to put the fight together for later this year.”
The report claims it could happen as early as May. But it is probable that it will occur at a later date. ESPN Deportes boxing reporter Julius Julianis backed that up on Monday by revealing a deal has actually been finalized. And the matchup is expected to take place in September in Las Vegas.

The two future Hall-of-Famers are near the top of most current pound-for-pound rankings. And have seemingly circled each other for years. However, the size disparity between the middleweight great and longtime welterweight star has been the biggest issue.
But Crawford has claimed publicly a willingness to move up several divisions to get the biggest fight of his career against Alvarez.
