Former champion Andre Ward put together a perfect career.

Now, as he looks to help boxing grow, Ward is taking aim at Canelo Alvarez.

In a recent interview, Ward called out the undisputed champion for not fighting either David Benavidez or Terrance Crawford. Instead, he will meet Jaime Munguia in May for his titles.

“You got Benavidez right now or Terrance Crawford,” Ward said. “(Alvarez) claims he will get no credit for fighting Terrance. Amir Khan was way smaller and you didn’t feel no type of way fighting him.

“He’s worried he won’t get the credit. You got to be consistent.”

Throughout his career, Ward battled at both super middleweight and light heavyweight. He finished a perfect 32-0 with 16 wins by knockout and won gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

In his last fight in 2017, Ward retained the WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles. He also won the vacant Ring belt with an eighth round TKO over Sergey Kovalev.

Andre Ward Not Impressed By Canelo Alvarez

Alvarez, meanwhile, has been in the news for months now for his refusal to fight Benavidez. His bout with Munguia is set for May 4 from Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Alvarez retained the undisputed super middleweight belt in September with a decision over Jermell Charlo. He also fought in May of 2023, besting John Ryder in Mexico.

Ward was referencing a 2016 bout that saw Alvarez knock Khan out in the sixth to retain his middleweight belts at the time.
