Sonnen made a name for himself in the 2010s by calling for a fight against Silva during a career hot streak and enraged Brazilians when he claimed after beating the then-UFC middleweight champion he would take his wife home and have her make him a steak dinner.
While it created a huge amount of interest in their first fight at UFC 117 in 2010, the pair of MMA greats have become friends since then and Sonnen really is the perfect opponent if this is to be “The Spider’s” last bout. On Wednesday, the fighters took part in a press event to hype the bout and it was all love and laughs ahead of their scrap.
Anderson Silva gives Chael Sonnen a rose as a gift
In the video above, the two UFC veterans square off for one of the final times in a major pre-fight presser. Sonnen pushes for Silva to face off like they once did in their previous two fights in the cage. And the Brazilian obliges for a great photo opportunity. But later in the presser, Anderson Silva is handed a rose, which he then gifts to his long-time American rival in a hilarious moment that concludes with a true show of friendship, a hug.
Unlike so much of the pre-fight hype for various bouts around the combat sports game, the short promotion of this fight has been very positive with a lot of tongue-in-cheek jokes thrown in. Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen III will be a boxing bout on Saturday night and will air on the Brazilian television network Globo TV.
