5 Boxing Title Fights To See This June

We are in for quite a treat here throughout the month of June when it comes to action inside the boxing ring. Starting right away this weekend, title fights will be present over the next several weeks.

Here is a look at five of those title fights to keep in mind when setting your schedule for the month.

Claressa Shields Vs. Maricela Cornejo, June 3

Up first will be the fighter many consider the great female boxer today, Claressa Shields. Competing in her hometown, Shields will defend her undisputed title against Maricela Cornejo live Saturday, June 3.

Originally, Shields was set to take on Hanna Gabriels, but Gabriels was removed in recent weeks following a positive test for a banned substance.

Instead, Shields gets to go after her 14th career win in Detroit against Cornejo, who is 16-5 overall with six knockouts.

Josh Taylor Vs. Teofimo Lopez, June 10

The WBO junior welterweight title will be on the line June 10 when Josh Taylor and Teofimo Lopez collide live on ESPN. Taylor was recently the reigning undisputed junior welterweight champion before the WBA, WBC and IBF stripped him of the belts.

Taylor wanted to put together a rematch with Jack Catterall, but the governing bodies want mandatory challengers to line up.

Now, he takes on Lopez, who is a former IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight champion with 18 wins in 19 career fights. His only career defeat came at the hands of George Kambosos Jr.

Sunny Edwards Vs. Andres Campos, June 10

June 10 will be a big day, as we also get an IBF flyweight title fight between unbeaten boxers Sunny Edwards and Andres Campos.

With 14 of his 19 career wins coming by way of knockout, Edwards will be looking for No. 15 with a successful title defense. He has already earned three title defenses.

Campos is 15-0 with four of his wins coming by finish and will need to be at his very best to derail Edwards.

Tim Tszyu Vs. Carlos Ocampo, June 18

Just recently confirmed, the interim WBO junior middleweight title belonging to Tim Tszyu will be on the line when he welcomes Carlos Ocampo to Australia. The two meet on June 18 in what should be an exciting contest.

One of the top junior middleweights in the world, Tszyu is a perfect 22-0 in his career with 16 wins coming by way of knockout. Ocampo owns wins in 35 of his 37 fights, as the losses were against Errol Spence Jr. and Sebastian Fundora.

He will be one of the more battle-tested opponents for Tszyu, who continues to move towards a showdown with Jermell Charlo.

Carlos Adames Vs. Julian Williams, June 24

Former IBF and WBA junior middleweight champion Julian Williams looks to add the interim WBC middleweight belt to his resume on June 24. That is the night he faces reigning champion Carlos Adames for the title.

Williams holds a career mark of 28-3-1 with 16 of those 28 wins coming by way of knockout. He owns a win over Jarrett Hurd that netted him both titles back in 2019.

Adames will be making his first title defense since posting a win over Juan Macias Montiel last year to improve to 22-1 and capture the championship.

And Two More Just For Fun

There are several more championship matches set for the month including Cherneka Johnson vs. Ellie Scotney for the IBF women’s junior featherweight title.

Joshua Franco and Kazuto Ioka have a rematch on June 24 for the WBA junior bantamweight belt in another exciting fight.
