Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya seems interested in signing lightweight star Shakur Stevenson to his promotion and recently made him an unusual offer.
Shakur Stevenson has been a hot-button topic around the fight game. No, he hasn’t embroiled himself in controversy like Ryan Garcia. Instead, there has been a lot of debate about the WBC champion’s potential as a mainstream star.

There is no denying how talented he is as a fighter, but there are many in and around the sport who feel he is one of the more boring elite fighters in the business. It’s part of why his recent promoter, Bob Arum, has no issue with the 27-year-old testing his value in free agency.
Well, it seems like Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya is one of the promoters interested in signing the New Jersey native. During a conversation with “Cigar Talk,” Stevenson called for a fight with Golden Boy fighter William Zepeda and suggested he and his promoter are ducking him. The claim made its way back to De La Hoya and he responded on X, formerly Twitter, with some interesting information that could point to Stevenson joining his promotion.
- Shakur Stevenson record: 22-0 (10 KOs)
“Had a great meeting with Shaku rStevenson’s representatives. William Zepeda will only fight him if Shakur is signed to Golden Boy Boxing,” De La Hoya wrote in his post.

Who knows if the ploy will work, but it is a clever idea. Stevenson wants a fight with Zepeda, and he needs a company to promote his future fights and try to build his name in the public. Furthermore, he would be a great addition to Golden Boy, a company that needs some potential stars with Garcia sidelined for the next year due to a suspension.
