According to a report from MASH, the former UFC lightweight champion has had his personal bank accounts seized by the Russian Federal Tax Service.

In May, the authorities froze multiple accounts tied to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s various businesses, including those attached to his Eagle FC fight promotion. This followed an investigation into allegations that he circumvented tax obligations by funding investments outside of Russia.

His alleged tax debt is reported to be approximately $3 million.

The latest development in his monetary woes come just days after a terrorist attack in Dagestan, the predominantly Muslim Russian republic that Khabib Nurmagomedov hails from, claimed the lives of 16 civilians, five police officers, and five assailants.

His gym, Eagle MMA, was raided shortly afterwards by law enforcement when one of the gunmen in the coordinated attack at several churches and synagogues was discovered to be Gadzhimurad Kagirov, a 2-0 MMA fighter affiliated with the fight team.

According to journalist James Porrazo, Eagle MMA is being singled out in an investigation of “religious extremist elements” in the region’s mixed martial arts community.

Nurmagomedov downplayed the connection, stating that Kagirov “had a camp at the gym at some point…but he was never part of the team.”

Fellow former light champion Conor McGregor chimed in on the alleged ties between Nurmagomedov and the horrific attack calling him and his team “fake lying rats” in a post to X which has since been deleted. In another now deleted post, McGregor jokingly offered him “pushups for cash” in reference to the tax debt.

Nurmagomedov retired undefeated after submitting Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 for his third title defense. Since his abrupt exit from the sport, there has been a seemingly endless amount of speculation about a possible return. At this point it is unclear whether or not “The Eagle” will return to the Octagon for a possibly much needed paycheck.
