Two decades after Vitor Belfort captured the UFC’s light heavyweight title, his son is on the way to continuing the family’s championship legacy.

However instead of the Octagon, Davi Belfort is aiming for success on the gridiron.

The 19-year-old, who became one of the nation’s highest rated quarterbacks in high school, is hoping to stand out for the Virginia Tech Hokies after committing to the ACC school last year.

Beyond the genetics Vitor Belfort passed down to his son, “The Phenom” may have given Davi a unique tool that may give him an edge in the highly competitive world of Division 1 sports: boxing.

Vitor Belfort, who used frightening power and hand speed to become a legend in mixed martial arts before amassing an undefeated record in boxing, might be able to take at least some credit for the hybrid training methods that led to Davi’s impressive work on the football field.

Scout Report: Vitor Belfort’s Son Can ‘Quickly Set Up and Let It Rip

A video posted to the Instagram account theqbplug shows the younger Belfort combining football drills with the sweet science to stay in shape during the offseason. The blend of pad work and quarterback specific footwork might be just what Davi needs to separate himself from the pack.

The speed and power of his punches certainly didn’t hurt as he racked up 3,115 total yards and 34 touchdowns with 67% completion rate during his senior year at Gulliver Prep. Judging by a scouting report that praised his willingness to “lower the shoulder pad and take a blow in hopes of moving the chains,” the rigors of a sparring session may have also prepared him for the physical demands of college football.

While he is not expected to see playing time as a freshman, he seems prepared to make an impact as soon as he can touch the field. In the meantime, Davi Belfort, who is also the first Brazilian to receive a Power 5 Football Scholarship, is expected to pursue a degree in business.
