In a shocking announcement, Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions has revealed that the fight game disruptor will still fight in July despite rescheduling his planned bout with Mike Tyson for November.
Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson was one of the most highly anticipated bouts of the summer, despite it not being relevant to the heavyweight rankings. However, fans excited about the scrap were let down when a health scare forced “Iron Mike” out of the scheduled bout on July 20 and pushed it back to November.
The assumption was that the YouTuber-turned-pugilist would wait until the fall for his next appearance in the ring. However, that will not be the case. On Tuesday, MVP Promotions revealed that their top star will still fight on July 20, and his opponent will be none other than UFC veteran turned BKFC star Mike Perry.
“When Paul vs. Tyson was rescheduled, I knew immediately that I wanted to still fight on Saturday, July 20. Now, as I prepare for my fight against ‘Iron Mike,’ there’s no better opponent for me than Mike Perry,” Paul said in a statement. “He’s a proven knockout artist who has shown to be a maniac in and out of the ring. This is the perfect experience for me to gain in advance of facing Mike Tyson.”
The bout will take place inside the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, and air exclusively on DAZN. The main event bout between Paul and Perry at next month’s “Fear No Man” event will be contested at cruiserweight. The promotion also revealed that featherweight champion Amanda Serrao will make her return on the card and battle Stevie Morgan in a super-lightweight scrap. That bout will serve as the evening’s co-main event.
“Jake Paul claims he fears no man, but on Saturday, July 20, the world will see the truth: he just made the worst mistake of his life in trying to get through me before Iron Mike,” Perry proclaimed in the press release. “I’m going to make it look easy and I’m going to teach Jake Paul the most he’s ever learned about fighting.”
“Platinum” is a 15-fight UFC veteran who earned a notable fan base in the company as he scored four knockouts in his seven wins and had a fan-friendly fight style. However, he has recently become the face of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship over the last few years by going unbeaten in his first five bouts and scoring wins over Eddie Alvarez, Luke Rockhold, and Michael Page.
Paul vs. Tyson is still scheduled to take place in November.
