A former AEW star who recently parted ways with the company has reportedly had discussions about joining WWE.

The last couple of months have been filled with rumors and reports from pro wrestling free agency. AEW has been the biggest winner on the open market by signing elite free agents Mercedes Mone, Will Ospreay, and Kazuchika Okada to massive contracts.

However, WWE has made a couple of solid additions in the returns of Naomi and Shawn Spears recently, which follows the signings of CM Punk and Jade Cargill late in 2023. And it was recently reported that legendary TNA/Impact tag team the Motor City Machine Guns are also now available in free agency and could be on WWE and AEW’s radar.

But it looks like another member of a well-regarded tag team of the last decade is in talks to take his talents to the top promotion in the land. In an interview this week with Chris Van Vliet, Santana revealed that he has had discussions with WWE following his release from AEW earlier this year.

“Yeah, I’ve had some discussions [with WWE]. I’ve been very open with everybody, you know. Right now, it’s just about going where I can grow the most. I don’t want to just be another guy on the roster. I’ve already done that. I want to be part of something special, you know? Thankfully, I’ve been smart with money, so I’m not hurting. I’m taking my time with things, and I just want to have fun.”

Santana and Ortiz were one of the top tag teams early in AEW’s history. Unfortunately, the long-time duo had a falling out in recent years and it led to the New York native’s recent departure from the organization. The duo won titles in several organizations during their career including in Impact Wrestling.
