According to ESPN, boxing fans waiting to see Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos meet can finally pencil it in.
The two are on tap for May 12 in Perth, Australia with the bout airing live on ESPN the night of May 11. The vacant IBF lightweight title will be on the line.
Lomachenko and Kambosos were originally scheduled for 2022 in Australia for WBA, IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight titles. However, Lomachenko opted to pass on the fight and remain in Ukraine after the Russian invasion.
Kambosos went on to defend the belts vs. Devin Haney, losing via decision. He also dropped a rematch for the titles along with the WBC belt later that year.
Last July, Kambosos got back on track, improving to 21-2 with a majority decision over Maxi Hughes for the IBO belt.
In 2021, Kambosos stunned Teofimo Lopez for the four titles inside Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. His bout with Haney was his first title defense.
Vasiliy Lomachenko Set To Return
A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Lomachenko is coming off a decision defeat to Haney for the belts last May. He is 17-3 overall and 3-2 over his last five fights, having dropped the titles to Lopez in 2020.
In his first pro fight in 2013, Lomachenko captured a belt. He lost to Orlando Salido the following year before reeling off 13 consecutive wins. During that stretch, he recorded 10 successful title defenses.
The report also indicated the Moloney twins, Jason and Andrew, are expected to compete on the undercard. Jason Moloney is coming off a bantamweight title defense.
