A matchup between two former champions has been added to an already stacked UFC 300.

According to Ag. Fight, Cody Garbrandt will take on Deiveson Figueiredo on April 13. The two were previously scheduled to fight at UFC 255 in 2020 for the flyweight belt until Garbrandt was forced to withdraw after tearing his bicep.

The UFC has yet to confirm the booking or release any other details. The news comes just hours after company CEO Dana White announced that Zhang Weili will defend her strawweight crown against number 2 ranked Yan Xiaonan at the same event.

Cody Garbrandt Seeks Late Career Redemption

Former bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt is coming off well needed consecutive wins in 2023. Prior to his first-round knockout of Brian Kelleher in December at UFC 296 and a decision over Trevin Jones at UFC 285, the 32-year-old suffered two straight defeats including a quick stoppage against Kai Kara-France in an underwhelming lone showcase at flyweight.

After coming off of a career best performance to claim the title from Dominick Cruz in 2016, Cody Garbrandt has gone 3-5, which includes a trio of consecutive knockouts in title fights to TJ Dillashaw and a Fight of the Night at UFC 235 with Pedro Munhoz.

Deiveson Figueiredo will continue the bantamweight campaign that started with a decision win over perennial contender Rob Font in December. Before getting that unanimous nod, Figueredo went 1-2-1 in four consecutive fights with Brandon Moreno in which the two passed the flyweight title back and forth until Moreno’s TKO win at UFC 283 prompted a trip up the scale.

Figueiredo initially earned the vacant flyweight belt by submitting Joseph Benavidez in July of 2020. He successfully defended three times, including a draw with Moreno in their first bout. After tapping to a third-round rear naked choke in their immediate rematch, the Brazilian powerhouse became a two-time champ when he bested Moreno at UFC 270.

UFC 300 takes place on April 13 in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena.
