UFC Veteran Suffers Injury, Out Through Early 2024

UFC

Darren Elkins got into the win column earlier this year, scoring a submission victory vs. T.J. Brown at UFC Fight Night from Las Vegas.

With that being his lone bout in 2023, the veteran was likely targeting an early return to the Octagon in 2024.

That will not happen.

Elkins posted on social media that he suffered a serious leg injury during a “freak accident” while training.

“Current situation,” Elkins posted on Instagram. “I snapped my tibia and fibula in my right leg by freak accident during jiu-jitsu. Just got out of surgery where they put a nail in my leg.

A 39-fight veteran, Elkins is 28-11 overall with 15 finishes, including nine knockout wins. He is 4-2 over his last six since a four-fight losing skid between 2018-20.

Darren Elkins Has Fought In The UFC For 13 Years

Elkins made his promotional debut all the way back in 2010 at UFC Live from Broomfield, Colorado. That event featured Brandon Vera taking on Jon Jones.

He earned the TKO victory over famed coach Duane Ludwig that night after Ludwig suffered an ankle injury. That moved Elkins’ record to 11-1.

Later that year, he suffered a loss to former UFC champion Charles Oliveira before putting together a five-fight win streak. That run was halted by Chad Mendes in 2013.

Since that time, Elkins has gone 8-2 with both defeats coming by decision.

In 2018, he lost to current UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski via decision, and also suffered a TKO defeat at the hands of former contender Ricardo Lamas.
