Combate Global will once again showcase “Copa Combate” beginning Friday and concluding on Saturday.
The two-day event will see the crowning of a new champion, with the winner walking away with $100,000.
Eight fighters will compete in the featherweight division live on Paramount+. The two alternate fights and four quarterfinal round matches are Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET with the semifinals and finals part of Saturday’s show that kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Jimmy Smith and Rodolfo Roman co-host a 30-minute preview show prior to the start of both evenings.
Combate Global Announces Copa Combate Pairings
The quarterfinals of the event will include Alexander Schenk, who is 6-2 and representing the United States after replacing wildcard recipient Jeremy Alba. Alba was deemed ineligible to fight by the Florida Athletic Commission.
Schenk will face off against Marlon Gonzalez of Peru in the quarters, with Ramiro Jimenez from Mexico putting his 7-0 record on the line opposite Chile’s Pablo Burgos.
On the other side, Manuel Exposito of Argentina battles Tommy Garcia from the Dominican Republic, while Nicolas Barna of Uruquay gets Leonardo Morales from Nicaragua.
For the first time in the five-year history of “Copa Combate”, the tournament’s quarterfinal stage will be comprised of two rounds, each five minutes in length, while the semifinal stage bouts will still be comprised of one round, five minutes in length.
The championship bout will consist of three rounds, each five minutes in length, the same lengths that the semifinal stage fights and championship fight, respectively, have been in the past.
Jade Jorand and Naomie Young meet in a women’s catchweight contest between the semifinals and finals of the event.
