Tom Aspinall

UFC 295 title challenger Tom Aspinall found himself in a little social media war with Conor McGregor recently. Aspinall takes on Sergei Pavlovich this Saturday night for the interim heavyweight title.

It is not too often that fighters come out without feeling upset after a little social media war with Conor McGregor.

But Tom Aspinall did.

Aspinall takes on Sergei Pavlovich this coming Saturday night live from Madison Square Garden in New York City at UFC 295. The interim heavyweight title will be on the line after the planned main event between champion Jon Jones and challenger Stipe Miocic was scrapped.

For Aspinall, he had himself in an interesting situation with McGregor, a former two-division UFC champion, earlier this year.

Back in April, Aspinall questioned how McGregor would fare going up against Michael Chandler. That bout was expected for this year but has been delayed.

He took to X and McGregor noticed, responding as only “Notorious” can with threats that he would “kill” and “starve” the Manchester-born Aspinall.

“I don’t know Conor in fairness, I’ve never really met him and was quite surprised by what he said,” Aspinall said in a recent interview with Casino Canada. “I don’t understand the whole thing. I didn’t mean to offend anyone with what I said but I don’t get why he got so snappy about it all.”

As for how the bout would go, though, Aspinall doesn’t believe the time off from competing will hurt McGregor.

“Michael Chandler has a wild style. He’s (got a mentality to) knock them out or get knocked out and that’s a very dangerous game against someone like Conor McGregor with his power,” Aspinall said. “Where McGregor’s body or mind is at, I don’t know but if he goes into the fight motivated, he can definitely win the fight.

“People will always tune into his fights; I know I am and I will always tune in. I don’t know where his mind is at, his body is at, or even where his ambition is at, but he can definitely always offer the UFC entertainment.

“Someone like me will always tune into his fights. I’ve always been a Conor McGregor fan; I like what he’s all about.”
