A recent report offers insight as to why Mercedes Mone, also known as Sasha Banks in the WWE, has yet to join the AEW roster.
Why Hasn’t Mercedes Mone Joined AEW?
The top female wrestling talent was shown at AEW’s All, in the crowd. This led to buzz about her becoming All Elite.
Still, the former WWE Women’s Champion has yet to debut in Tony Khan’s wrestling promotion. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (WOR) recently pondered the reason why she hasn’t joined the roster.
Meltzer states that the company could hold off on a debut until she’s fully recovered from her recent injury. She hurt her ankle during the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) STRONG Resurgence event this past May and still hasn’t fully healed.
According to reports, she was supposed to wrestle at All In. However, this injury prevented her from doing so.
Still, it seems that her relationship with Khan’s promotion is positive, and reports indicate that she’s very open to working with them. In addition, All Elite talent Kris Statlander recently said the women’s division is awaiting the opportunity to take her on, which hints that she’s expected to show up in the company at some point.
Still, she’s not the only ex-WWE star to be connected to All Elite Wrestling as of late. Ronda Rousey recently appeared at the Ring of Honor’s ROH on HonorClub episode.
She partnered with Marina Shaffir, and Khan had noted interest in collaborating with Rousey again. Still, Dave chimed in on this during a recent WOR edition, noting that he thinks Ronda’s appearance was a “one-shot” deal, as she left the WWE to focus on her family.
This likely means that she doesn’t want to commit to another promotion, anytime soon. Only time will tell if either Mone or Rousey will end up becoming All Elite.
