UFC Fight Night 231 Main Event Now Features Derrick Lewis

Derrick Lewis will return to action for the first time since signing a new contract, as he replaces Curtis Blaydes in the main event of UFC Fight Night 231.

Lewis will battle Jailton Almeida in a heavyweight showdown live from Sao Paulo, Brazil on November 4. The event takes place from the Ibirapuera Gymnasium.

Back in July, Lewis improved to 18-9 with the promotion and 27-11 overall when he finished Marcos Rogerio de Lima. The bout also earned him a new contract after his had expired with rumors of a potential move surrounding the veteran.

Almeida has won 14 consecutive, a run that includes five fights with the UFC. Back in May, he submitted Jairzinho Rozenstruik live on ABC in his first main event inside the Octagon.

Blaydes was looking for his first win since last year when he picked up the TKO after an injury to Tom Aspinall. Back in April, he was finished by Sergei Pavlovich, falling to 17-4 overall.

The bout change was first reported by Ag.Fight and confirmed by MMA Junkie.

Other bouts previously announced for the event include Gabriel Bonfim vs. Nicolas Dalby, Don’Tale Mayes vs. Rodrigo Nascimento, Armen Petrosyan vs. Rodolfo Vieira and Ismael Bonfim vs. Vinc Pichel.

This event will mark the ninth visit to Sao Paulo and the first since 2019 when Jan Blachowicz and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza met in the main event. All the action will air live on ESPN+.
