Fabricio Werdum Coming To Inflict Pain On Junior Dos Santos

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum returns to action next month when he faces Junior dos Santos.

The battle of ex-champions will take place on the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA Clash event, which is scheduled for September 8 from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Werdum will rematch with dos Santos as he looks to secure a win after losing the MMA bout several years ago.

“I gotta make the most of this second chance,” said Werdum on Thursday at Wild Card Boxing Club. “I’m coming to inflict pain! This is a great opportunity for me and I’m doing everything I can to take advantage of it.”

Werdum, a 46-year-old, last competed in 2021 when he faced Renan Ferreira at PFL 3. Ferreira earned the win that night, but it was overturned after video revealed he tapped to a triangle choke.

In 2020, Werdum bested Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC with a first round submission. Overall, he is 24-9-1 in his MMA career with wins over Cain Velasquez, Mark Hunt, Travis Browne and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Dos Santos lost his last five MMA fights, including a 2022 defeat to Yorgan De Castro at Eagle FC, the promotion ran by Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The event will stream live on the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA YouTube page.

Along with the main event between Werdum and dos Santos, former UFC champion Renan Barao takes on Sean Soriano in a 145-pound clash.

Brandon Jenkins squares off with Anthony Njokuani, Irwin Rivera meets Joshua Weems and Brandon Davis fights Ago Huskic.
