Once upon a time, Colby Covington and Jon Jones were teammates. The two were together in junior college at Iowa Central in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Now, years later, the two are nowhere close to being called friends.

UFC 295: Colby Covington Calls Out Jon Jones

Colby Covington doesn’t believe Jon Jones wants to share the UFC 295 card with him.

The two are former college wrestling teammates, competing for Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Since that time, though, they have been nowhere close to holding a friendship with each other.

“Is Jon going to be willing to share a card with his former college roommate who knows all his dirty secrets, all the dirty skeletons in his closet?” Covington said during an interview with Michael Bisping (thanks to MMA Junkie for the quotes). “I bet that he’s going over to the UFC right now and he’s telling them, ‘Yo, I’m not sharing a card with Colby. I will refuse to fight here.’

“So, the only way I see that fight happening is, we know Jon’s unpredictable, we know he might go sniff some white girls, kind of like Joe Biden. He’s not to be relied on. He might get pulled off the card, and we might have to save the day and be the main event.”

Jones is scheduled to defend his heavyweight title on November 11 at UFC 295 against former champion Stipe Miocic. Covington is expected to be the next challenger to Leon Edwards and his welterweight title.

When I say – and I give my word to the UFC – that I’m showing up, I’m showing up,” Covington said. “I’ve never, ever pulled out of a fight. I’m always the ultimate professional and that’s what I do best.”

Covington said that he has heard Jones talked with UFC executives and that he “refuses to share a card with me.”

“They’re gonna give him what he wants,” he added. “They don’t want to ruin their New York show and they’re still hoping he shows up. But they need a backup plan. He’s not reliable. I’m the ultimate company man.”
