UFC Results: Complete Recap Of UFC On ESPN 48’s Action

UFC

Check out the latest UFC results as UFC on ESPN 48 took place Saturday night live on ESPN and ESPN+. In the main event, middleweights Sean Strickland and Abusupiyan Magomedov battled from Las Vegas and the Apex. The card kicks off an exciting month with International Fight Week on the horizon. Now, let’s get to the action.

UFC Results: Sean Strickland Stuns Abusupiyan Magomedov

Sean Strickland scored himself a key victory in the middleweight division, knocking out and finishing Abusupiyan Magomedov in the main event of UFC on ESPN 48. The end of the bout came in the second round live on ESPN and ESPN+ from the UFC Apex.

Strickland earned his second straight win and eighth over his last 10 fights, improving to 27-5 overall. His only two defeats during this current run came to former challenger Jared Cannonier via split decision and ex-champion Alex Pereira.

This, though, was his first finish since a second round knockout of Brendan Allen back in 2020. And it came at the most opportune time, derailing the hype behind Magomedov for now.

Grant Dawson Extends His Unbeaten Run With Victory

In the co-main event, lightweight Grant Dawson picked up another win, scoring a decision vs. Damir Ismagulov. The 29-year-old from Wisconsin is now unbeaten over his last 12 fights, and 20-1-1 overall.

Dawson made his Octagon debut back in 2019 after a win on Dana White’s Contender Series two years prior. Since, he has went 8-0-1 to make a nice, steady climb in the division.

Michael Morales and Ariane Lipski also earned decisions on the main card. Morales topped Max Griffin in the welterweight division, while Lipski downed Melissa Gatto at flyweight.

Finishes Kick Off The Main Card

Back-to-back first round finishes started the main card, as Nursulton Ruziboev dropped Brunno Ferreira.

Ruzioboev landed just over a minute into the first round, earning the finish at the 1:17 mark.

Right after that, Benoit Saint-Denis submitted Ismael Bonfim, locking in a rear-naked choke and getting the tap with 12 seconds left in the round.

Kevin Lee’s Return Ends In Defeat

Former interim title challenger Kevin Lee made his UFC debut, but was finished by Rinat Fakhretdinov.

Fakhretdinov locked in a guillotine choke, with the referee calling an end to the fight by way of technical submission at the 55-second mark.

That welterweight bout concluded the prelims, which saw three finishes in all.

Joanderon Brito knocked out Westin Wilson in the first round and Elves Brenner stopped Guram Kutaleladze in the third.

Around those bouts, Karol Rosa, Luana Carolina and Alexander Romanov were declared winners.

Brenner and Guram Kutateladze earned “Fight of the Night” with Strickland and Ruziboev picking up “Performance of the Night” bonuses.

What’s On Tap

The big stage of UFC 290 is set for the next event, as Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez meet to unify the featherweight titles. That bout headlines the card from Las Vegas and the T-Mobile Arena in Saturday, July 8.

Also, Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja meet for the flyweight belt, while Robert Whittaker and Dricus du Plessis square off in an eliminator bout at middleweight.

Bo Nickal kicks off the main card vs. Tresean Gore after Robbie Lawler headlines the ESPN prelims in his final fight vs. Niko Price.
