UFC 294: Islam Makhachev Wants Leon Edwards In October
Reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has his eyes set on competing at UFC 294. And he wants fellow titleholder Leon Edwards.
The event is set for October 21 from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Makhachev is slated to be part of the it per previous reports, but no opponent has been named.
That is why he went ahead and made the claim and push for a meeting with Edwards via social media.
“What do you think,?” Makhachev asked on Twitter.
It was floating around that a rematch with Makhachev and Charles Oliveira was the plan, but Oliveira is not expecting to be ready to fight that soon. Instead, he is targeting later in the year.
Alexander Volkanovski, the current featherweight champion, has also been mentioned as a possible opponent for Makhachev. He recently unified the belts with a one-sided victory over Yair Rodriguez.
Back in February, those two battled to the distance with Makhachev scoring the victory.
Makhachev has not lost since his second appearance in the Octagon when Adriano Martins caught him in the first round at UFC 192. He has reeled off wins over the likes of Thiago Moises, Nik Lentz, Dan Hooker and Bobby Green since.
In regards to Edwards his reports of his next opponent, that remains former contender Colby Covington. However, Edwards has hinted that he is not interested in that fight, either.
