Tyson Fury Vs. Francis Ngannou Set For October 28

According to sources, a heavyweight boxing fight of epic proportions is on deck for this fall. Tyson Fury, the reigning WBC champion, will take on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou inside a boxing ring.

The fight is planned for October 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ESPN is reporting. It is unknown at this time if Fury’s WBC belt will be on the line vs. the newly-signed PFL fighter.

Fury and Ngannou have been involved in a back-and-forth regarding a fight since early in 2022 when Ngannou was still the reigning UFC heavyweight champion. They shared the ring together in London following a TKO win by Fury over Dillian Whyte in April of that year.

Since that time, rumors have heated up, especially once Ngannou signed with the PFL, which indicated he would be allowed to take matches such as the Fury one upon signing his contract.

Fury is a unbeaten in his boxing career, holding a record of 33-0-1 with 24 knockouts. He was looking to square off against undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk, but those talks fell through.

Over the past few years, Fury has also retired and unretired a handful of times. He has also competed for the WWE in pro wrestling matches.

Ngannou, who owns a record of 20-3-3 in mixed martial arts, has not competed since January 2022 when he successful defended his UFC title with a win over Ciryl Gane. Along with taking time off to recover, Ngannou’s contract expired and he became a free agent.

After surgery and upon signing with the PFL, Ngannou told ESPN at the time that “my next step has to be boxing.”

“I want to do one boxing match first, and then maybe go back to MMA because I still enjoy MMA,” he said. “I want to do a couple of fights in boxing.”
