Anthony Joshua-Dillian Whyte Rematch On For August

Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua will look to secure a future date with Deontay Wilder this August when he squares off with Dillian Whyte.

The two will meet August 12 from The O2 Arena in London, England live on DAZN.

“I’ve been clear that my plan is to be active this year,” Joshua said (thanks to ESPN for the quotes). “August 12 is the date. I’ll be ready to fight. I look forward to dealing with business.”

The 33-year-old Joshua will be fighting for the second time since losing to Oleksandr Usyk in 2022. That was his second consecutive loss to the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO and The Ring champion.

Overall, Joshua is 25-3 with 22 wins by knockout. He bested Jermaine Franklin back in April in London.

Joshua also holds a 2015 win over Whyte to his credit, stopping him in the seventh round. Again, that fight also took place from The O2 in London.

On that night, Joshua retained the WBC International and Commonwealth heavyweight titles, while also claiming the vacant British heavyweight belt.

Whyte, who has also competed in kickboxing and mixed martial arts, is a 35-year-old from Portland with a record of 29-3 including 19 knockouts.

Twice he has held the interim WBC heavyweight title between 2019 and 2022 along with several regional belts.

Like Joshua, he is also coming off a win over Franklin, scoring that victory last November from the OVO Arena Wembley in London. Last year, he lost to Tyson Fury for the WBC and The Ring heavyweight belts after claiming the interim WBC title in 2021 with a TKO vs. Alexander Povetkin.

“I’m looking forward to returning to London O2 on August 12,” Whyte said, “and going to war.”

Joshua and Wilder continue to discuss a possible December fight in Saudi Arabia. An Olympic gold medalist, Joshua once lost his titles to Andy Ruiz in a huge upset.

August will also see Usyk return to the ring, as he defends his WBC, IBF and WBA belts against Daniel Dubois in Wroclaw, Poland. As of now, there is no broadcast plans for the event in the United States.
