UFC Results: Amanda Nunes-Irene Aldana Battle At UFC 289

UFC Results

We head north of the border for UFC results from UFC 289 on Saturday night. In the main event, reigning women’s bantamweight – and featherweight for that matter – champion Amanda Nunes faces off against Irene Aldana. This was supposed to be the third encounter between Nunes and former champion Julianna Pena, but Pena was forced out with an injury. Now, here are the complete UFC results from the night.

UFC Results: All Amanda Nunes Again

Amanda Nunes dominated Irene Aldana at UFC 289 Saturday night. The reigning women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion remained that way from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The bantamweight title bout served as the main event and headliner, as the UFC returned to Vancouver for the first time since 2019. This marked the 32nd event overall to be held in Canada.

Nunes, who reclaimed the belt last July with a decision win over Julianna Pena, moved to 23-5 overall. She has lost just once since 2014.

Charles Oliveira Is Back, Baby

The former UFC champion offered a simple message for everyone who counted Charles Oliveira out.

Not yet.

Oliveira knocked out Beneil Dariush in the co-main event, finishing the fight inside of the first round.

After dropping the title to Islam Makhachev in October in Abu Dhabi, some wondered if the division caught up to Oliveira. Instead, he showed off his striking, earning his 34th career win and 31st finish.

Of all the UFC results from the night, though, this one might have the biggest impact.

Mike Malott Makes Quick Work Of Opponent

Mike Malott held serve as the favorite in his welterweight match with Adam Fugitt. Just over a minute into the second round, Malott locked up a guillotine choke and scored the win.

The native Canadian capped off an incredible run for fighters from the country, improving to 10-1-1 with the win. Malott has gone 3-0 with three finishes since joining the promotion after a win on Dana White’s Contender Series.

This was his first victory in his home country since 2017.

Dan Ige and Marc-Andre Barriault kicked off the main card with back-to-back decisions at featherweight and middleweight.

Ige swept the scorecards over Nate Landwehr for his 17th career win and second of the year, while Barriault downed Eryk Anders. The Canadian also moved to 2-0 on the year and 16-6 overall.

Clash Of Heads Ends Prelim Main Event

Middleweights Nassourdine Imavov and Chris Curtis had their main event on the prelims come to an abrupt end in the second round.

With just under two minutes to go, the bout was stopped after an accidental clash of heads. Curtis was unable to continue in the middleweight fight after the incident.

Jasmine Jasudavicius upset Miranda Maverick, sweeping the scorecards after taking two of the three rounds in the women’s flyweight fight.

Aiemann Zahabi knocked out Aori Qileng in the bantamweight division in just 64 seconds, while Kyle Nelson, Stephen Erceg and Diana Belbita all picked up decisions.

Up Next Inside The Octagon

The promotion returns to Las Vegas and the Apex with a middleweight main event between Marvin Vettori and Jared Cannonier next Saturday night. The entire event airs live on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

Armen Tsarukyan vs. Joaquim Silva and Armen Petrosyan vs. Christian Leroy Duncan are also scheduled.

Other notables expected to fight include Raoni Barcelos, Nicolas Dalby and Kang Kyung-ho.
