The second and third events for the 2023 PFL playoffs will head to New York City and the world-famous Madison Square Garden. The events are scheduled for August 18 and August 23.
PFL Playoffs Heading To Madison Square Garden
The final two events of the 2023 PFL playoffs will take place less than a week apart in New York City. The promotion announced plans for the second and third playoff cards to go down from Madison Square Garden.
The second event is scheduled for Friday, August 18 with the third and final one taking place Wednesday, August 23. Heavyweights and female featherweights are up first, with welterweight and lightweight fighters rounding things up.
Both cards will air live on ESPN platforms.
“The PFL is thrilled to return to New York City and the ‘World’s Most Famous Arena’ with two nights of PFL Playoff action,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray. “On August 18 and August 23, the world’s best fighters will enter the PFL Smartcage with a trip to the 2023 PFL World Championship on the line.
“The PFL Regular Season has led to these critical moments, where elite athletes move one step closer to their $1 million dreams.”
Opening the semifinal round of the playoffs will be an event on Friday, August 4 from the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio. Featherweights and light heavyweights are scheduled for that evening.
Fighters will battle for a spot in the PFL Championships, where they can claim $1 million and the title of their respective weight class.
The PFL is the only league in mixed martial arts that uses a sports-season format to crown champions. Fighters have been competing in early action to score points and advance.
Those events are currently ongoing this month from the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Reigning champions include Brendan Loughnane, Larissa Pacheco, Ante Delija, Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Sadibou Sy.
Last year, the finals of the PFL 2022 season were also held in New York City from Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.
In recent months, the PFL has expanded to other countries, including starting PFL Europe, which has held events this year.
