In the main event, Alex Pereira defends his light heavyweight championship against former titleholder Jamahal Hill. Pereira, also an ex-middleweight champion, is making his first title defense. Hill, meanwhile, vacated the belt without ever losing it due to an injury.
Zhang Weili puts her strawweight belt on the line vs. Yan Xiaonan in the first-ever meeting of Chinese fighters for UFC gold. Also, Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway collide over the “BMF” belt.
Rounding out the main card is a lightweight title eliminator between former champion Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan. Opening the card is top prospect Bo Nickal meeting Cody Brundage.
Max Holloway Thrills, Reigning Champions Both Defend
Former UFC champion Max Holloway likely secured himself a major payday. “Blessed” dominated Justin Gaethje before scoring a thunderous finish to become the new “BMF” champion.
Earlier in the week, UFC president Dana White announced $300,000 fight-night bonuses. It would be highly unlikely that Holloway’s finish does not secure him one of those.
Holloway and Gaethje stood toe-to-toe in the center of the Octagon. After a series of exchanges, Holloway dropped him straight to the canvas with a second left in the fifth round.
Alex Pereira scored a successful title defense in the main event, finishing former champion Jamahal Hill in the first round. The co-main saw Zhang Weili fend off the challenge of Yan Xiaonan, remaining strawweight champion.
