Mackenzie Dern dominates to victory
Mackenzie Dern continues to show her progression as an all-around fighter, dominating Angela Hill in the main event. Dern improved to 13-3 in her career, with eight of those wins coming inside the Octagon.
The 30-year-old former submission grappling gold medalist bounced back from a majority decision loss to Yan Xiaonan last October. After winning 11 of her first 12 pro bouts, Dern has gone 2-2 over her last four, with all four going to the scorecards.
Dern went on the attack in the third, bringing Hill to the ground and beginning to impose her will. She softened her up while searching for a submission, displaying smooth transitions before unloading a number of uncontested shots.
Early on, the two engaged in some crazy striking, as both fighters were looking for the finish.
Anthony Hernandez, Joaquin Buckley deliver
In the co-main event, Anthony Hernandez handed Edmen Shahbazyan a stunning loss. The middleweight finished the fight in the third round with a series of elbows and strikes.
The win was the fourth in a row for Hernandez, with three of them being finishes in either the second or third rounds. He is now 11-2 overall and 6-2 with the UFC since earning a spot through Dana White’s Contender Series.
Lupita Godinez earned herself a decision victory over Emily Ducote and Joaquin Buckley landed a devastating head-kick finish of Andre Fialho.
Carlos Diego Ferreira had a highlight-making main card opener, as the lightweight finished Michael Johnson in the second round. Less than two minutes into the round, Ferreira connected, dropping Johnson to the canvas.
The win was a much-needed one for the 38-year-old, as he had lost three consecutive fights – the last two of which came by finish. This was his first win since submitting former UFC champion Anthony Pettis in 2020 and the fourth knockout of his career.
Key finishes, decisions for fighters
The featured prelim belonged to Viacheslav Borschev, as he scored a second round finish over Hayisaer Maheshate. Borschev ended the lightweight contest with a flurry of strikes.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz earned a key decision when she topped Vanessa Demopoulos. The veteran and former title challenger scored her third consecutive win in the process.
Gilbert Urbina and Natalia Silva picked up finishes, while Rodrigo Nascimento, Chase Hooper and Themba Gorimbo were winners by decision.
