UFC 290 this summer will be the retirement bout for Robbie Lawler, as two titles are in the main and co-main event roles for the International Fight Week pay-per-view card.

Robbie Lawler to retire after UFC 290

One of the legends of the sport will call it a career this summer as former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler retires after UFC 290.

Lawler will headline the ABC-televised prelim portion of the fight card that culminates International Fight Week in Las Vegas on July 8. “Ruthless” is scheduled to meet Niko Price that night.

Just days earlier, Lawler will go into the UFC Hall of Fame for his classic 2015 battle with Rory MacDonald.

“I found Robbie Lawler when he was 19 years old,” UFC president Dana White said on social media, “and UFC 290 will be the final fight of his amazing 22 year career.”

The 41-year-old Lawler had his biggest win in 2014 when he claimed the welterweight title with a win over Johny Hendricks. Lawler would defend the belt vs. MacDonald at UFC 189 and again at UFC 195 vs. Carlos Condit.

In 2016, he lost the belt to Tyron Woodley and is just 2-5 since with a loss last July to Bryan Barberena. The wins have come over fellow icons in the sport Nick Diaz and Donald Cerrone.

Lawler, a native of San Diego, California, holds wins in his career over the likes of Josh Koscheck, Matt Brown, Melvin Manhoev and Frank Trigg.

Along with winning UFC gold, he is also a former EliteXC middleweight champion, ICON Sport middleweight champion and Superbrawl middleweight champion.

UFC 290 headlined by Volkanovski vs. Rodriguez

The UFC featherweight title unification bout will serve as the main event for the event, as Alexander Volkanovski takes on Yair Rodriguez.

A second title fight between flyweight champion Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja is the co-main event.

Other main card bouts include Robert Whittaker vs. Dricus Du Plessis in a No. 1 contender match in the middleweight division, Jalin Turner vs. Dan Hooker and Bo Nickal vs. Tresean Gore.

Other announced bouts include Sean Brady vs. Jack Della Maddalena and Yazmin Jauregui vs. Denise Gomes.
