Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Reported For July 29
A massive boxing match is getting close to be finalized, as reports have indicated Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. will meet this summer.
ESPN is reporting that the mega-fight will take place July 29 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Under Showtime PPV, both fighters would make a guaranteed eight figures for the match for the undisputed welterweight title.
The contract is expected to include an immediate rematch clause that can be triggered within 30 days of the fight. That would leave them both to meet again before the end of 2023 before both make a move up to 154 pounds.
Also, a third fight could be arranged if they each score a win. That winner would be the likely top contender to the junior middleweight title, which is held by Jermell Charlo.
Most Anticipated Bout Since Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao
For the past several years, representatives of both Crawford and Spence have worked hard to bring the fighters together. With the bout nearing completion, many are calling it the most anticipated bout since 2015 when Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao finally squared off.
The 35-year-old Crawford is a perfect 39-0 with 30 wins by knockout, including a December finish of David Avanesyan. He has also bested Shawn Porter, Kel Brook, Amir Khan and Jose Benavidez Jr. in recent years.
Crawford has held the WBO welterweight title since 2018 and is a three-division champion. He was the unified light welterweight champion from 2015-17.
Spence is the unified welterweight champion and has held the IBF title since 2017 and the WBA belt since 2019. He won the WBA (super) championship last year and is 28-0 with 22 knockouts.
Last April, he retained his titles with a 10th-round finish of Yordenis Ugas and has also topped Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia in recent fights.
He returned from surgery to repair a detached retina in 2021 and was scheduled to meet Pacquiao that year before the issue.
