Fans were surprised to see blood appear at the WWE Backlash match between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar this past weekend. According to multiple reports, this was all part of the plan.

Brock Lesnar Blood At Backlash Was Planned

WWE has changed its stance on blood appearing in matches over recent years. The company has seemingly moved away from including this in bouts and believes it’s not needed to tell a story in the ring.

That’s why the WWE Universe was a little shocked to see The Beast Incarnate busted open during his match with Cody Rhodes this past Saturday at Backlash. With that said, the event did take place in Puerto Rico, which is known for bloody brawls in professional wrestling.

Still, blood in a match is very rare in the WWE these days. Many fans questioned if it was done on purpose or not.

Sounds like the blood was intentional. According to both Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Fightful Select, the blood that surfaced during the match was planned.

Blood and blading are currently frowned upon within the company. However, in this circumstance, it was given the okay.

Rhodes sent his opponent face-first into an exposed turnbuckle, causing Brock to bleed out. While The Beast plugged on, despite his “crimson mask”, he placed The American Nightmare into a Kimura Lock.

Things seemed dire for Cody, but Rhodes did turn it all around. Much to the surprise of both Lesnar and the fans, Rhodes grabbed a shocking pinfall, leaving his opponent stunned.

With that said, looks like Lesnar returned the favor, costing Cody a shot at the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship on RAW last night. Rhodes almost had his qualifying match won when The Beast pulled him from the ring and hit an F5 on him.

It looks like these two will once again square off at the Night of Champions. The event will take place in Saudi Arabia, later this month on Saturday, May 27th.
