Sheamus Nearly Left WWE Over Draft

WWE is preparing for some big changes at the end of this month and into early May. The WWE Draft is returning, meaning the rosters for RAW, SmackDown and possibly NXT are undergoing some dramatic changes.

As of now, there is no official word on any concrete plans by WWE. But, we will know more before the week ends on at least some of those changes.

Sheamus will be part of the upcoming draft, but he almost did not make it. Apparently, he had a bad experience during the 2015 draft.

During a WWE 24 documentary about WrestleMania 37, Sheamus nearly left WWE over draft selection. “The Celtic Warrior” was upset with how late he was drafted.

“The draft came and I had just been WWE Champion up until the end of December [2015],” said Sheamus. “And I was the last pick on the [televised] draft.”

“I’m thinking to myself like, ‘How have I gone from ‘The Guy’ to the last pick of the draft?’ I was like, ‘This is a serious fall from grace.’ I was so angry, man.”

“I was ready… I kind of felt like ready to walk [out]. I really did. I felt like, ‘What am I doing? I’m not enjoying this anymore.’”

Of course, he thought about it and remained with WWE. Overall, he made the right call.

Sheamus debuted in WWE as part of the ECW brand. He was then sent to RAW and won a battle royal for a future title match and became the first Irish-born WWE Champion.

At TLC in 2009, Sheamus defeated John Cena in a Tables match.

The finish saw Sheamus push Cena off the top rope to send him through the table. Many were shocked WWE took the title off Cena and put it on Sheamus so quickly.

Some thought the finish was botched, but it was not. WWE invested in Sheamus early and the payday was already here.

Since then, Sheamus has won almost every title seemingly possible in WWE. He is still looking to win the Intercontinental Championship, to complete his trophy case.

He has fought GUNTHER for the belt in some brutal matches. Most recently, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre lost a triple threat to GUNTHER in one of the best matches during WrestleMania 39 weekend.

So, when Sheamus nearly left WWE over draft selection, was it the right call for him to make?
