Former Champ Khabib Nurmagomedov Steps Away From Coaching

Former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is retiring for a second time.

Nurmagoemdov told Javier Mendez that he is stepping away from coaching. He moved into that role after completing an unbeaten MMA career.

Mendez appeared on Submission Radio recently to discuss the matter.

“Yes. He told me, unlike the last time when he promised his mother that he would retire from competition and I was not aware of it, this one here, he informed me about three weeks out that this is what he was gonna do,” Mendez said. “He wants to spend time with his family, and I one hundred percent I’m with him on what he wants to do and the reasons why he wants to do it. There’s no legit reasons more than family for him and giving them what they deserve, the time, you know, while they’re young. And he never said forever, but there’s gonna be a while though I would imagine.

“Unless something happens where he really misses that and he really feels he’s needed. But right now, I think everybody is good with his decision and very happy for him.

“I told him to just remember that you can always come back, if that’s what you choose to do, and just your presence there in the corner with us is a big push for the guys. So, you don’t have to train the guys, you can just show up on fight night.

“But he at the present time he’s choosing to just stay at home and be with his family. And how can you fight that? There’s really nothing I can say that’s more important that family. I’m with him one hundred percent on what he wants to do.”
