Terence Crawford Retains Title, Knocks Out David Avanesyan

Terence Crawford delighted his hometown crowd Saturday night, defending the WBO welterweight title.

Crawford finished David Avanesyan in the sixth round to retain. The event took place from Omaha.

“Bud” was scheduled to meet Errol Spence, but talks broke down. Ironically enough, Spence posted on social media that he was involved in an auto accident.

This was his sixth time fighting in his hometown, but the first since 2018.

“I was touching him to the body, and I was seeing that had an effect,” Crawford said. “He had a high guard, and I picked up the pace. There were punches in bunches, I saw an opening and took it and the rest is history.”

As for the potential meeting with Spence, Crawford declined to say for sure it would happen.

“We don’t know what is next,” Crawford said. “We’ve got to go back to the drawing board and be ready for whoever.”
