PFL Playoffs 7: Olivier Aubin-Mercier With Tremendous Opportunity

Back in 2013, Olivier Aubin-Mercier got his first break in mixed martial arts.

The veteran now has the opportunity of a lifetime at PFL Playoffs 7.

Aubin-Mercier will meet Alex Martinez in a semifinal contest on August 5 from Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event airs live on ESPN and ESPN+.

Nine years ago, Aubin-Mercier was selected for The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia. Representing Canada at welterweight, he reached the finals, falling to Chad Laprise.

That performance, though, was enough to warrant a shot in the UFC. Aubin-Mercier would win three straight and seven of eight.

In 2021 he needed something new. And that is where the PFL came in.

With the unique season-long format leading into a playoff competition, Aubin-Mercier has thrived.

He earned two wins last year over Marcin Held and Darrell Horcher. And this season, he has followed with decisions over both Natan Schulte and reigning champion Raush Manfio.

Aubin-Mercier will face Martinez in one semifinal, with the other pitting Anthony Pettis against Stevie Ray. The winners will advance to the finals with the chance to win the 2022 title and $1 million.
