How about this? Frankie Edgar vs. Dominick Cruz at Madison Square Garden in November?
If Edgar has his way, that is exactly what will happen.
The former UFC champion told ESPN recently that he would like to compete on the November 12 UFC 281 card. That event is set for Madison Square Garden in New York City.
And he likes Cruz for an opponent.
“I think that would be cool,” Edgar said. “It would be pretty cool to send off at Madison Square Garden; it’s pretty much my backyard. I trained up in Renzo’s for so many years, it would be a pretty cool sendoff.”
Edgar won gold in the UFC’s lightweight division and has challenged for titles in two other weight classes. He has lost four of his last five, including knockout defeats at the hands of Marlon Vera and Cory Sandhagen.
Cruz is set to meet Vera on AUgust 13.
“I’m never one to call anybody out or pick anybody,” Edgar said. “I usually let the UFC kind of figure that out. But I’ll say a name just because I think it’s more of a legacy fight….Dominick Cruz.
“He was a champion at 135 when I was the champion at 155. We were both pretty much top of the division. I think that could be an interesting fight.”
