Cub Swanson and Dooho Choi put on a classic at UFC 206.
That bout will now be enshrined in the UFC Hall of Fame in 2022.
The 2016 battle between Swanson and Choi will be honored during the UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony this summer. That takes place from Las Vegas during International Fight Week.
“The fight between Cub Swanson and Dooho Choi is one of the greatest fights of all time,” said UFC President Dana White. “This fight was an absolute war for all three rounds and both guys left everything they had inside the Octagon, it was crazy! This fight was an incredible display of heart, endurance and determination and it was so good, it was named the 2016 Fight of the Year.
“Congratulations to Cub Swanson and Dooho Choi on a fight that will always be remembered as one of the best ever!”
The two met on December 10, 2016 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. That card featured Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis, but Swanson and Choi stole the show.
Swanson would score the win as the two landed a combined 188 significant strikes – the most for a featherweight fight in 2016. Of those, 111 were landed by Swanson.
The fight won “Fight of the Night” honors and would be named the “2016 Fight of the Year” by both ESPN and Fighters Only Magazine at the World MMA Awards.
