Triple H Announces Retirement From Wrestling

Triple H

Triple H has officially announced his retirement from in-ring competition.

The announcement comes months after a health scare that landed Paul Levesque in the hospital for an extended period. He decided on ESPN this morning.

According to his interview with Smith, Trips contracted viral pneumonia that led to his lungs inflaming. He began coughing up blood, and doctors found fluid around his heart. This eventually led to heart failure and then emergency surgery. Trips feared he would never wake up.

He will remain with WWE as Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy & Development. Triple H hasn’t been seen in public in months. His last match was in January 2021 in the Thunderdome when his brawl against Randy Orton ended in a no-contest when Triple H disappeared from the ring, replaced by Alexa Bliss.

Triple H’s Accomplishments

He was a 14x WWE or World Heavyweight champion and has held numerous accolades, including King of The Ring, winning the Royal Rumble twice, and being one of WWE’s few Grand Slam and Triple Crown champions.

On a personal note, Triple H has always been my favorite wrestler. I knew this day would come, but I hoped he would have one final match before heading off.

Reports indicate that the heart event was severe enough that Trips can not be involved in in-ring action.

Retirements are always with an asterisk in WWE, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back in a year or two. However, he sounded pretty definite in the interview. I’m proud of him putting his health and his daughter’s first.
