Kurt Angle Return Cancelled

Based on what was produced for TV, the 2022 Royal Rumble will go down as a major disappointment. Typically, the events get fans and wrestlers excited as WrestleMania season is here.

Although, from the perspective of the fans, it felt. There were little to no surprises and tons of problems backstage.

Shane McMahon seems have taken the fall as he was quietly let go from WWE after the card. He was originally set for major angles at Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania.

Reports surfaced online that the script was frequently changed. Basically, Shane wanted more attention backstage and in the ring.

Many names were flown in to work, but they were dropped last minute. That includes Kurt Angle, who was set to work through the Royal Rumble which was discussed on The Kurt Angle Show podcast.

“I went to the Royal Rumble,” said Angle. “The WWE wanted me to do a short program that they ended up canceling at the the very last moment.”

“But, we went to the Rumble, my wife and I. I also did some documentary interviews the day before, a photo op with the fans, but I want to make it clear I am in no way signed to WWE.”

“They were going to sign me anyway. It was going to be a three-week program. It got canceled, but you know, my obligation is to do the show, the Kurt Angle Show, and that’s it.”

When WWE started major budget cuts in 2020, Angle was one of the first let go. He has been offered to return a few times in non-wrestling roles, but always passes.

Angle’s last wrestling feud was against Baron Corbin. At WrestleMania 35, Angle lost his retirement bout.

As we all know, WWE did a horrible job with the Royal Rumble. They promised surprises, including a moment where they would break the fourth wall.

The Men’s Royal Rumble had no real surprises, but there was talent backstage. Basically, they were not used.

X-Pax (real name Sean Waltman) wanted to be the Royal Rumble. He spoke more about being passed on by WWE to Sports Illustrated.

“As far as the Royal Rumble, I gave them a heads up I’d be ready if they wanted me,” said Waltman. “I wasn’t actively campaigning for it.”

“I wasn’t going to do that. But I let them know, and I guess they weren’t interested.”

Now, X-Pax is preparing to come out of retirement at GCW’s Welcome to Heartbreak PPV on February 25. He teams with Joey Janela against Matt Cardona & Brian Myers.

At 49 years old, X-Pac wants to end his career the way he wants.

“I want to go out on my terms. My last matches, I was going through the greatest hits. It was all nostalgia. This is going to be different.”
