While she is back on television now, earlier Sonya Deville in-ring return plans were nixed. Plus, as we head to the end of the year, we have a big Sami Zayn update for you.

Sonya Deville In-Ring Return Nixed

It’s been a long time coming, but it almost wasn’t. Turns out some prior Sonya Deville in-ring returns were nixed.

Deville was off WWE television as of late in 2020, due to losing a “loser leaves” match. That match was set up to write her off of television.

If you forgot, Sonya Deville needed to step away from WWE for a bit. She had an eventful 2020, but not for all the right reasons.

Deville was the victim of stalking and the entire situation got rather scary. She needed the time off to take care of the legal side of that.

Deville returned in January, but not as an in-ring competitor. Instead, she’s been working as one of the two on-air authority figured for RAW and SmackDown.

Lately, Deville is working her way to an in-ring return facing Naomi. However, her in-ring return could have been much sooner.

Per Fightful, WWE had-and nixed-a number of in-ring return plans for Sonya Deville.

While the report noted that there were several in-ring returns nixed, one specifically came really close.

Sonya Deville very nearly returned to the ring at the 2021 Money In The Bank. How close did it come?

So close that WWE went through the process of having the graphics for Deville in the match made up.

Obviously, plans changed, and here we are.

While an in-ring return sooner might have been good, Deville has had a sneaky-good 2021.

She’s primed for an even bigger 2022 as well.

Big Sami Zayn Update

In other news, here is a big Sami Zayn update…and it’s a good one.

Sami Zayn has reportedly re-signed with WWE, marking the second major Superstar to do so in a week.

Or, at least, the 2nd report to come out for the week (since we don’t know when he has re-signed).

Per the Wrestling Observer, it is believed that the big Sami Zayn update is that he indeed has re-upped with the company.

Zayn’s was just one of many contracts that have or were set to expire around the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.

Kevin Owens’ contract was expiring shortly, too. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Owens re-signed.

Now, it seems his long-time best friend has followed suit.

With that big Sami Zayn update, we can look back at recent events and understand it makes sense.

Zayn did become the new #1 contender for the Universal Championship, after all.

Officially, Zayn was basically keeping Reigns busy until Brock Lesnar at Day 1.

However, Sami Zayn worked-and got over-like someone who was sticking around.

Had Lesnar-and WWE-crushed and absolutely embarassed Zayn? It might be presumed that Zayn did a final job on his way out.

Instead, he’s done some entertaining segments, especially with Brock Lesnar.

Now that he’s staying put, perhaps Zayn might get a bigger push moving forward.
