It’s On: Leon Edwards-Jorge Masvidal Targeted For UFC 269

Jorge Masvidal

A fight years in the making is nearly complete between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal.

Reports began circulating late Monday night that the two welterweights have agreed to meet at UFC 269. That card is set for December 11 with a location yet to be announced.

Dustin Poirier is scheduled to meet Charles Oliveira in the main event for the lightweight title. A planned bout between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo for the flyweight title will be moved to 2022.

Edwards and Masvidal had an interesting run-in with one another previously.

Since a 2015 loss to current champion Kamaru Usman, Edwards has been on a roll, winning nine fights with a no-contest. In June, he bested Nate Diaz in a five-round fight.

During this run, Edwards has also posted wins over Rafael dos Anjos, Gunnar Nelson and Donald Cerrone.

Masvidal is coming off two consecutive setbacks to Usman for the title, including an April second round knockout finish. He won three straight to earn his shot at gold, including wins over Diaz, Ben Askren and Darren Till.
