Jon Moxley was last year’s wrestler of the year, so it is time to look at some of the worst moments in Jon Moxley’s wrestling career. It shows that even wrestlers with worst moments can end up taking the gold.

1. The Nia Jax Feud

When Jon Moxley was still in WWE, the company had no idea what to do with him. Despite being widely successful as part of The Shield, WWE had little interest in anything else.

To find him an angle, WWE decided to start a feud with female wrestler Nia Jax. Needless to say, it led to one of the worst moments in Jon Moxley’s wrestling career.

During an episode of Raw, Nia beat Ambrose and tossed him out of the ring. Of course, there was interesting timing here.

This happened at a time where Ambrose would not be signing with the WWE again. Needless to say, he believed the company deliberately embarrassed him.

2. The Ambrose Asylum

Another one of the worst moments of Jon Moxley’s career came with the Ambrose Asylum. In fact, this was a match with Chris Jericho at the time that was being quite hyped.

It was supposed to be a brutal match. Instead, it somehow involved a mop and bucket, as well as Moxley’s potted plant Mitch.

Fortunately, a better match between both men came in All Elite Wrestling.

3. Ruined Finish

Many of Jon Moxley’s worst moments in his wrestling career happened in the WWE. Of course, this moment is no different.

When Dean Ambrose faced Seth Rollins, a hologram of Bray Wyatt caused a distraction. Ambrose lost the match as a result.

Needless to say, this killed any momentum Moxley had at the time. Obviously, it makes it one of the worst moments of Jon Moxley’s wrestling career.

4. Not Main Event Material

WWE was down on Jon Moxley at the time of WrestleMania 33. In fact, he was not even on the main card and was stuck on the preshow.

The worst thing about it all was that the match was a defense for the Intercontinental Championship. Obviously, it should have been on the main card.

Despite being two major stars on the WWE roster, the feud between Corbin and Ambrose had little attention. Naturally, there is no surprise that Ambrose eventually left WWE for rival promotion AEW.

5. Beaten By James Ellsworth

James Ellsworth was promoted as a comedy wrestler. So, no real threat to a high caliber wrestler as Jon Moxley right?

Well, guess again because James Ellsworth actually managed to get the upper hand. This all happened during a TLC match.

Moxley and Ellsworth were in an alliance in the runup to TLC. But when the match came around, Ellsworth literally turned the ladder on Moxley.

As a result, Jon Moxley lost his shot at the championship. However, the story behind it was even crazier.

Ellsworth believed that AJ would be easier to defeat for the championship. Well, I guess the wrestler of the year 2020 disagrees.

6. Brock Lesnar Squash Match

WrestleMania 32 was no better for Moxley. A year before the kick-off feud with Corbin, Brock Lesnar absolutely squashed Jon Moxley.

The match was supposed to be a no holds barred match. Naturally, fans were super excited about it.

However, the excitement turned into a big disappointment when Moxley got beat by Lesnar in record time. The match itself only involved suplexes by Lesnar as well.

Moxley would later say that Lesnar refused to do anything else but suplexes for the match. Unfortunately, this match also left a stain on his WWE career.

7. Worst Shield Member

Another one of our worst moments in Jon Moxley’s wrestling career happened in 2016. In fact, a promo by John Cena actually turned quite personal for Moxley.

While doing his promo, Cena actually completely destroyed Moxley. In fact, he called him the worst member of The Shield.

Cena compared Moxley to Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, claiming they were outworking him. Needless to say, the moment went down in history for all the wrong reasons.

Fortunately, Moxley proved once and for all that he is main event material in AEW.

8. Uncomfortable In Front Of The Camera

Moxley has always said that he feels uncomfortable talking about himself. While he is comfortable in the ring, he is actually not that comfortable talking about his personal life.

This character trait of Moxley became quite visible during his Stone Cold Podcast appearance. In fact, Jon Moxley looked incredibly uncomfortable during the entire interview.

Obviously, fans noticed how uncomfortable he was and it was talked about for several weeks. Fortunately, it also endeared Moxley to fans, as it made the person behind the wrestler much more visible for fans.

9. Barbed Wire Deathmatch

Moxley had a lot of his worst moments in the WWE. However, one of the worst moments of Jon Moxley’s wrestling career actually happened at AEW.

Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley had an absolutely brutal barbed wire deathmatch. However, the ending was a little bit of a dud.

The ring was supposed to explode. However, the firework guys had installed some sparklers that were a little underwhelming.

As a result, the entire thing looked incredibly fake. But while we know wrestling has scripted moments, you are not supposed to see it.

In spite of the dud ending, it was still one of the most brutal matches we had ever seen. Of course, Kenny Omega was far from happy.

10. Cancer Battle Promo

When Jon Moxley turned heel into the WWE, the company wanted him to do a horrible promo. In the end, he did and mocked Roman Reigns’ cancer battle.

Moxley would later say he despised the moment in question. He also revealed that it played a big role in his decision to leave the WWE for AEW.

Unfortunately, the promo is still talked about today. But at least we know Moxley was not the man behind it.
