UFC Minneapolis: Joseph Benavidez Puts Away Jussier “Formiga”

Joseph Benavidez demonstrated once again tonight at UFC Minneapolis that he remains, one of the best, most under-appreciated fighters in the game, by taking out Jussier “Formiga”.

Benavidez came out winging heavy body kicks, and then he started to low to the legs of Formiga as well. In an ensuing exchange, Benavidez had a cut opened up above his left eye. Formiga threatened with a knee moments later, and then took the back of Benavidez along the fence. Benavidez scrambled out, and after defending a guillotine attempt, resumed pursuing his fellow, flyweight contender.

Benavidez dug to the body of Formiga with another kick early into round two. Formiga changed levels around 90 seconds in, and took Benavidez down. The latter, however, quickly reversed positions and started working from the top. The fight returned to its feet, and Benavidez resume firing off kicks. Moments later, Benavidez rocked Formiga with a head kick and then a  big hook, and after he swarmed in with more punches, the fight was called. Benavidez has very likely locked up another shot at the 125 belt.
