WWE legend and veteran Kurt Angle has officially announced his retirement in his hometown of Pittsburgh. Angle made the following statement:
“At WrestleMania, I will compete in my farewell match.”
“I’d like to thank the WWE, I’d like to thank every superstar that I’ve shared the locker room with, and most importantly, I want to thank each and every one of you.”
To celebrate Kurt’s career, let us take a closer look at some of his best moments. Of course, he has a lot of amazing moments, so these are just a couple of our favorites!
A Hero After Terror
Only 12 days after the horrible terror attack at the Twin Towers, the WWE answered the call and provided a match that stood for American hope and determination to move forward. That match was between Pittsburgh’s hometown hero Kurt Angle and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Angle left the championship match victorious and submitted Stone Cold with an Angle lock. Of course, this was more than just a match, it provided fans with something to take their mind off the horrible events that took place just days earlier.
Becoming WWF Champion
Being a gold medalist did not mean an instant title for Kurt Angle. Quite the opposite actually, as Kurt had to work as a rookie and go through legends such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, and The Undertaker.
Wrestling With a Damaged Neck
At WrestleMania 19, Kurt Angle would not have been able to wrestle by today’s standards. In fact, it would only take one bump for Angle to be paralyzed or worse. Still, Angle held his own during a match with Brock Lesnar and even carried Lesnar to the end as Brock suffered a concussion during the match.
Five Star Match With Chris Benoit at the Royal Rumble

One of Kurt Angle’s most iconic matches came at the 2003 Royal Rumble, where he defended his title against Chris Benoit. Of course, this was not the first classic match between the pair, as they faced each other numerous times over time years. Still, their 2003 Royal Rumble match stands out for all the right reasons.
Proven Hardcore Wrestler
Kurt Angle had his fair share of brutal matches, but none as brutal as the match with Shane McMahon in 2001. During the match, Angle would attempt to throw Shane through a glass window, which refused to break several times before finally caving in.

Angle had so many great moments over the course of his career, it is difficult to mention them all. From putting over John Cena to submitting legend Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 21, there are so many moments that should be included in this overview.
Of course, there are plenty of funny moments that can be attributed to Angle, too. As he mentioned during his Hall of Fame induction, it is important not to take yourself too seriously as a wrestler. That being said, Angle certainly contributed to some of the best moments in history.
