UFC Denver: Donald Cerrone Discusses Fight Ending Submission, Says he Felt Mike Perry’s Arm “Pop”

Donald Cerrone

Donald Cerrone recorded a record, 15th finish last night at UFC Denver, and it looks like the man he submitted, Mike Perry, did not emerge from the technique unscathed.

Cerrone faced the heavy-handed slugged in the card’s co-main event, and late in the opening round the action spilled to the floor. As the opening frame was winding down, Cerrone rolled into an armbar, and after a couple of moments, Perry eventually tapped out.

After the bout, Cerrone had this to say about the fight-ending armbar, and where Perry went wrong (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I felt it pop before I went belly down,” Cerrone said. “So the rest was just tearing the chicken wing off, yeah. I was taking it home with me.”

“Once I seen the clock, there was 30 seconds left — the monitor was right above me,” Cerrone said. “I was like, oh I better spin for this armbar. I did. He should have rolled the other way out of it, I don’t know why he didn’t. I was like, ‘Gotcha.’ So I went belly down on it. I was just gonna take it until the referee pulled me off.”

There you have it. Perry also reported after the card that “Cowboy” “broke my damn arm”.

Not only did Cerrone set a record, by recording his 15th finish in the Octagon, but it was also his 21st win in the UFC, which is another, new record.
