Former champ Chris Weidman has been struggling since losing the belt to Luke Rockhold a while back. Which is a shame, because all of his fights since then have been in his home state of New York, and he’s lost most of them. He beat Kelvin Gastelum the last time around, but prior to that it was Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi doing the clobbering.
And last night, at UFC 230, it was Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza who handed him another defeat.
Things were going great at first. Weidman wanted to bang it out, and Jacare wanted to oblige him, and the man who beat the legendary striker Anderson Silva on the feet was kicking a lot of Brazilian ass.
Busted up. Wobbled. Hard shots landed.

Jacare got some good licks in, but for the most part, Weidman was standing in the pocket and piecing him up.
Who said @JacareMMA was a jiu-jitsu guy?!?! #UFC230 pic.twitter.com/7cY1FKWNh2

Then came Round 3, when Jacare found an opening for a knuckle-sandwich that put Weidman down, and the follow-up punches that put Weidman out.

Sheesh. Can’t Weidman ever catch a break?
