UFC Fight Night 140 Primer: Hey, Even Argentina Needs MMA Fights Sometimes

UFC Neil Magny

In the ever expanding global circle in which the UFC will operate, this weekend will bring us UFC Fight Night 140 from the majestic spires of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Because, sure, even Argentinians deserve MMA fights sometimes… right?

Anyway, there’s one nearly-noteworthy Argentinean on the UFC roster – Santiago Ponzinibbio – so of course he’s headlining the event. Standing opposite him will be Neil Magny, who may have peaked a while back, but who’s still tough enough to make the TUF Brasil runner-up sweat.

While the co-main has Ricardo Lamas and Darren Elkins throwing down (and they’re certainly bigger names than those in the main event), this event is pretty much a gift tied in a nice bow for the local fans, so of course Ponzinibbio is meant to be the star.

The real question, though, will be how the audience comports themselves. We know from seeing a million events in Brazil that Brazilians tend to go bonkers. Will the same be true for Argentina? If ol’ Ponz scores another TKO, like he did over Court McGee, will they be rioting in the streets?

I guess we can consider UFC Fight Night 140 a test run, then.
