Kenny Omega Is On The WWE Network

If 2018 hasn’t already been a weird enough year for professional wrestling, Kenny Omega is now on the WWE Network.

Okay, it’s a single video – but still.

WWE uploaded an Omega match from his time in Deep South Wrestling to the “Hidden Gems” section of the Network. From the Wrestling Observer:

The match is against Cru Jones and took place in Deep South Wrestling, which was part of WWE’s developmental system, on September 3rd, 2006. Including a pre-match promo from Omega, the video is just under six minutes long and ends with Omega winning with Sliced Bread Number Two.

Omega joined Deep South Wrestling in 2005 before leaving in 2006.

Omega is one of the most successful non-WWE wrestlers in the world, so it only makes sense that WWE would want to acknowledge his time with the company. In a way, it shows that they saw potential in Omega years before any other major promotion did.

Unfortunately, Omega never made it out of developmental. He left of his own accord, and in 2017 he told Edge and Christian on their Pod of Awesomeness that he felt creatively stifled in Deep South Wrestling:

“I felt like any attempt to show my personality was sabotaged in a way a little bit. I would have a move, for example, and then, I’d have somebody tell me exactly why it makes no sense, but really, nothing makes sense. It’s so easy to [say that a pro wrestling move makes no sense].” Omega added, “so I was kind of mindf–ked a little bit and I started to, not lose confidence in myself, but just kind of lose confidence in the system.”

But if 2018 has taught us anything, it’s that Omega could certainly find his way back to WWE one day. However, given that he just won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the first time, and did so by unseating the longest-reigning champion in the title’s history, he’s clearly not done in NJPW yet.
