Evil Shinsuke Nakamura Debuts New Theme Song

I’ve long been of the opinion that Shinsuke Nakamura has the best theme song in all of WWE. In fact, I think Nakamura’s theme song is currently my top listened to track on Spotify, because it’s just that good.

But, alas, “The Rising Sun” is no more. Nakamura has a new attitude, and a new entrance theme to reflect it. Behold, “Shadows of a Setting Sun,” which Nakamura debuted this week on SmackDown.

In case you’re wondering: no, I don’t know what the lyrics are in English and I haven’t found a full translation yet. But if what one Redditor says is correct, at least part of the lyrics translate to, “Do you realize what my power is? Do you realize that I’m number one?”

But, I think I like this translation better.

Interestingly, I also haven’t been able to find any information about the band itself, which WWE says is called Shadows of the Sun. A Google search of that name only turns up an album of the same name by Norwegian “experimental collective” Ulver. Even stranger, a search for “shadows of the sun Japanese band” yields “Shadows of the Dying Sun,” an album by Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium. Apparently, Scandinavian musicians have an affinity for sun and shadow metaphors.

But even if Shadows of the Sun was a band created by WWE explicitly to make this remix, it’s still perfect for Nakamura’s new character. Gone is “arena rock star” Nakamura, and in his place is a scuzzy, unapologetic opportunist who deals more low blows than he does Kinshashas. “Shadows of a Setting Sun” perfectly reflects that.
