The supposed plan is that the winner of Tony Ferguson – Khabib Nurmagomedov will go on to fight Conor McGregor later in the year, but “El Cucuy” is looking to battle another superstar, Georges St-Pierre.

One of the interesting narratives tied to the Ferguson – Nurmagomedov bout, has been that both men have questioned whether McGregor will in fact step up and fight the winner of their April 7th scrap. UFC boss man Dana White has said that’s the plan, and McGregor has talked about legitimizing his reign at 155 (although he’s apparently going to be stripped of the belt soon). But, when it comes to McGregor, no one really knows what the Irish star’s going to do next.

Well, while speaking to the media recently, Ferguson was of course asked about McGregor, and the interim champ said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“Conor who?” Ferguson asked. “I mean, the guy’s not in the picture. Straight up. I mean, bless his heart. He’s made his money. He’s doing his thing. He’s got an education for his kid. That’s what we all want, right?”

“…If you have to hype it up, and you want to come back because that’s the sport and the athlete in you – the guy that I met at Paradigm Sports when I shook his hand and I said, ‘You better stay at 145 because at ’55, we’re going to have problems,’ he’s nowhere to be found. Straight up. So, if he wants to come back, that’s great. But my concern is not him – it’s the next person in line.”

Now, we all know that if McGregor wants to fight either Ferguson or Nurmagomedov, then the UFC will jump on that, as will either “El Cucuy” or “The Eagle”. After all, it would be a massive bout, and a massive payday for all parties concerned.

But, when asked who he wants to fight next, Ferguson raised eyebrows by saying Georges St-Pierre. Ferguson also noted that he’s competed at 170 12 times. Would GSP be interested in that fight though? Maybe. If Ferguson scores an impressive win over Nurmagomedov, then you never know. But, GSP would likely be more intrigued if the fight took place after Ferguson beat both Nurmagomedov and McGregor.
