Big Update To AJ Styles Injury Report

Bad news. Potentially. It appears that AJ Styles is dealing with a nagging injury. It could cost him his “dream match” between Shinsuke Nakamura at Wrestlemania. Here’s what we know via PWInsider:

WWE champion AJ Styles only made one appearance over the weekend, working briefly at Madison Square Garden where he saved Shinsuke Nakamura from an attack by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Styles was slated to work as Nakamura’s tag team partner, but Owens and Zayn attacked the pair and injured Styles with several chairshots before the bell. Styles did not work any Smackdown Live touring events the remainder of the weekend.

PWInsider.com can confirm Styles is dealing with an injury, although we have not confirmed the nature of the issue. Styles is backstage at Raw in Dallas today to be looked over by WWE medical staff, we are told.

ProWrestlingSheet’s Ryan Satin found a french wrestling site who interviewed AJ.

Styles said he would be at Wrestlemania even on one leg.

Dave Meltzer also confirms that Styles ready to go.

Wrestlemania Possibilities If AJ Styles Is Injured

Hopefully, this is just an injury requiring some rest and time off. But if it is something serious and AJ is unable to work Wrestlemania, WWE will need to be creative about what to do with the WWE title and Styles’ opponent Shinsuke Nakamura. Here’s what they could do. Assuming Nakamura is still involved in the WWE title match since he won that right at Royal Rumble.

Nakamura vs. Rusev

Rusev is angling hard for a “celebrity” match at Wrestlemania. I reckon he’d be happier with a WWE title match instead. The Russian and Japanese superstars already put on a banger of a bout at Fastlane and could destroy it on Wrestlemania if given a chance.

Nakamura vs. Hideo Itami

Itami is floundering a bit on 205 Live, and while it seems like he and partner Akira Tozawa are angling for the to-be-announced Cruiserweight Tag titles, this would be a better way to introduce him to a wider audience. The two never faced each other in Japan and would deliver the hardest hitting match of the night for sure.

Nakamura vs. Daniel Bryan

This is the least likely to happen. If Bryan even gets cleared to wrestle, it would be in a safe(ish) tag match with Shane McMahon vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. It would also be a first time match that would have fanboys going ape.

Hopefully, we don’t come to this, and AJ is cleared to go!
